BELIEF IN GOD
It goes without saying that belief in God underpins the life of any Christian. Belief and faith are indispensable ingredients that we must have to access the powerful therapy of God’s counsel. Indeed, without belief and faith, there is no salvation or redemption from our sins. The Lord tells us in Hebrews 11:6 (KJV):
“But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
When we seek counsel from God we must believe that He is a good God who wants to heal and bless us and that He will also do what is best for us according to His word. This is a very powerful truth from where we must launch our quest to obtain from God what is lacking in our lives. It is so powerful that this principle governs our entire life and determines our eventual destiny. People are what they are and do what they do because of their beliefs. The Scripture once more confirms in Proverbs 23:7 (KJV):
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”
THE POWER OF THOUGHT AND REPENTANCE
Thinking is a spiritual action. Thinking gives us ideas to create projects and products. It is also how we formulate our opinions and beliefs. The words think, thought and thoughts occur 207 times in the KJV of the Bible. Thinking is therefore a vital component of our nature. The words repent and repentance appear 69 times in the Bible. The Greek meaning of ‘repent’, namely metanoeō , means to think differently. By thinking differently, we open ourselves to God’s Love and infinite Grace.
THE STORY OF PETER AND SIMON
The Apostle Peter uses repentance very effectively when he reprimands Simon the sorcerer for his wicked intentions concerning the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter tells Simon in Act 8:22 (NIV):
“Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.”
Peter perceived through the power of the Spirit that Simon was hoping to make money with this extraordinary supernatural gift he saw in operation in the Apostles. It is also interesting to note that repentance is placed in front of prayer in a rebuke by Peter.
GETTING OUR MINDS RIGHT
Before we can hope to communicate effectively with God, we first have to get our minds in agreement with His authority and then secondly with what He considers to be right. Only then, can we free ourselves from sin and be on the righteous path of salvation, walking in God’s Light and His enduring Love. Matthew 6:33 (NIV) tells us:
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
