THE HEALING POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD

GOD’S WORD HEALS

God’s Word is a powerful healer. Many of our illness including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and addiction are psychosomatic. These illness take control due to our state of mind not being aligned with the Word of God, and by extension, our inability to fulfil his Will on Earth. All mental and physical illnesses are easily overcome when we modify our behaviour and become God-centered instead of being World-centered. With that shift, we open ourselves to the healing power of the Word of God, which is alive and life-giving. Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) shows us just how powerful God’s living Word is:

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

HEALING IN THE SCRIPTURES

Hebrews 4:12 is only one of many examples in the Bible that exemplifies the efficacy of God’s Word in its power and ability to heal mental, emotional and physical sickness. God, as Our Father in Heaven, the Son Jesus Christ, and the divine Holy Spirit, has the power to heal the whole person. Here are four examples of healing from the Scriptures:

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”

“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.”

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

“At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.”

HEALING IS THE NAME OF GOD

The Scriptures never condemn the legitimate or appropriate use of medical science and doctors. But remember that one of God’s names from the Old Testament shows us that by His nature, God is a healer. Jehovah-Rapha, or Yahweh-Rapha, means “The Lord Who Heals” in Hebrew. Exodus 15:26 (NIV) tells us:

“If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”
