WHAT IS BELIEF THERAPY?
The fundamental principle underlying Belief Therapy is that people behave as they do because they adhere to the convictions of their beliefs. Dr Paul Carlin, a scripturologist developed Belief Therapy as a Christian therapeutic treatment while ministering to Texas prisoners for over 20 years. He says the underlying premise of “people do what they do because they believe what they believe” has its foundation in the Holy Bible. For example, Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) states:
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
Carlin also says that the source of destructive behaviour is our belief system.
THE BELIEF-BEHAVIOUR RELATIONSHIP
When people’s lives and behaviour are determined by their belief system, it is very easy for lies to appear to be the truth. As such, living a life underpinned by lies means that individuals become dysfunctional.
Using Belief Therapy as a Christian treatment modality, therapists confront lies with the truth of the Word of God. The individual is then challenged to renounce their belief systems and realign their beliefs with the Will and the Word of God. This realignment of beliefs and attitudes finds its roots in the Holy Scriptures. Here are three examples:
TRANSFORMATION BY REALIGNMENT OF BELIEFS
These 3 Scriptures are indicative of the transformative power of Belief Therapy and the Word of God. John 8:32 is telling us that people are set free from the bondage of lies when they replace the lies with God’s truth. Luke 18:27 means that with belief in God anything is possible, and that this belief is the most powerful healing value known to humankind. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 6:14 that when we transform our belief system and follow the Word of God, we live under the freedom of His grace.
THE HEALING POWER OF BELIEF THERAPY AT HOUSE REGENERATION
When our students at House Regeneration confront the lies stemming from their addictions through Belief Therapy, they are set free by the healing power of the Love and the Word of God. Doubt, fear, perceived rejection, guilt, anxiety, stress and depression become secondary as the healing process begins through Christian therapeutic counselling that addresses the soul, body, and spirit. Through relentless support, House Regeneration counsellors ensure that every student understands why they do what they do, and how to bring their own belief systems in line with the Word of God. Proverbs 11:14 (NKJV) states:
“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
